Overview:

A Team Lead Property Accounting is a leadership role responsible for managing a team of property accountants, ensuring financial accuracy, and overseeing specific property-related accounting tasks. Key duties include supervising staff, reviewing work, performing bank reconciliations, preparing financial reports, and resolving team queries related to data entry or statements. This role requires strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with proficiency in accounting software being essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the end-to-end accounting cycle (R2R) for assigned properties, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Maintain general ledger (GL) integrity by ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, including balance sheet and P&L reviews.
  • Prepare and review financial packages for each property, ensuring completeness and accuracy before submission to senior management.
  • Process and monitor accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) activities, including vendor invoices, tenant billings, and collections.
  • Manage cash flow for assigned properties, including monitoring bank balances, reconciling accounts, and preparing funding requests or distributions.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting, including variance analysis and commentary on property performance.
  • Support other compliance-related documentation for Asset Management, lenders & investors.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external auditors to support audits, reviews, and other financial examinations.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, company policies, and industry regulations.
  • Manage a team of property accountants, including 1:1 check-ins, performance monitoring, and providing guidance.
Software:
  • Must have RealPage non-negotiable and Yardi
  • Familiarity with AP systems, cash management workflows, and compliance processes in real estate accounting.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 7 + years of total accounting experience, including GL/R2R functions ( 3+ years in property accounting experience is mandatory)
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, real estate accounting principles, and property management operations.
  • Proficiency in RealPage mandatory and Yardi experience added advantage
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong customer service mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
